Upload or Download? Philanthropy meets frugality online!
On July 14th, Monica Hamburg and Vince Hodges are going to meetup and discuss how the newest online services are both extending philanthropic outreach, and bolstering personal finances.
Monica's recent keynote address to MyCharityConnects Conference titled "Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Oh My! Understanding Philanthropy 2.0" articulated the effect of connecting through social media in assisting charities in their fundraising and marketing. Finance professionals will hear how social media is compatible with their own financial communications, building relationships through transparent, timely, and proactive communications.
Vince, on the other hand, will discuss how the internet has unleashed powerful, new, online savings applications. Founder of Pennyminder, an online personal and social finance service, Vince will discuss how the emergence and utility of social finance is compatible with the principals leading to growth in personal savings.
Vince has also just announced a new project, called Chipped.in, that will track group fundraising and contributions over the web, mobile, or desktop. You can sign up now to be notified when the application is released.
Monica's bio:
"Monica Hamburg is a Vancouver-based speaker and social media consultant/evangelist. She is a researcher, investigator, and observer of today’s multi-media world. She contributes to the popular digital marketing magazine “One Degree” and blogs at “Me Like the Interweb ” about social media and its relation to business and connecting. She also wields her evil sense of humor on her "Your Dose of Lunacy" blog."
Vince's bio:
"Vince Hodges started in the tech-industry more than 28 years ago. A programmer by trade and an entrepreneur by nature, Vince admittedly has a bad memory and as his finances became more complex and his businesses grew, so did Vince’s financial spreadsheets. So he wanted to simplify. Finding that HE was now spreading himself thin, he started up Pennyminder to remedy the condition."

July's meetup was all about 'the social' - with a discussion about social media best practices by Monica Hamburg, a social finance demonstration by Vince Hodges, and an exceptionally social group of meetup members. The meeting could not have been more social - or so you would've thought. Now, thanks to the in-kind editing sponsorship of Ronnie Bugay, even the video of July's meetup has gone social.
